The secluded and charming summit of Monte Sillara lies on the boundary ridge between Emilia Romagna and Tuscany. The north eastern side facing Emilia Romagna gently slopes toward the attractive basin of the well-known Laghi Sillara (Sillara Twin Lakes). The south western side facing Tuscany is steeper, rockier and rarely climbed because of its long trails and difficult terrain. Monte Sillara is frequently climbed because of its panoramic views of the lakes and Apennine mountain region, easy access in the winter for hiking and ski-mountaineering, and summit views of the Apuan Alps and the Tyrrhenian Sea. In fact in the clearest days it is possible to see the Tuscan islands Archipelago and Corsica.
recommended route
From Rifugio Lagoni, take the trail on the right for 711 (the left trail is your return). This will intersect with 715. Continue on 711 by going left at this intersection. Then you'll shortly reach another crossing in which you will go right onto 713. This will take you by Capanne di Lagoscuro, a small unmanaged hut in the mountains. The 713 will eventually dead end at track 00. Turn left and then shortly go right continuing on 00 to the summit. Descend back the same way you came on 00. Take the 737 trail at the first crossing you reach. This route will eventually turn into 711 and 711A. Continue straight until returning back to the refuge.
